BYD Atto 3 Tyre Size Guide Singapore β€” OEM Specs, Best Tyres & Pricing

BYD Atto 3 Tyre Size Guide Singapore β€” OEM Specs, Best Tyres & Pricing

The BYD Atto 3 uses 235/50R18 101V XL tyres β€” but early units came with Atlas Batman tyres that most owners replace at the first opportunity. Here's what Singapore Atto 3 owners need to know about EV tyre sizing, wear rates, and the best replacements for our roads.

BYD Atto 3 Tyre Size Singapore

Looking to replace tyres for your BYD Atto 3?Β

If you own a newer variant, the BYD Atto 3 uses the 235/50R18 tyre size. The current factory-fitted tyre is the Continental EcoContact 6 Q (235/50 R18 101V XL), chosen for its low rolling resistance and quiet ride. Initially, for earlier Atto 3 units, they were shipped with the budget 215/55/18 Atlas Batman tyres. Many of our clients complained about these in terms of grip and noise and ended up replacing these at their first opportunity.Β

BYD Atto 3 Tyre Specifications

Specification Detail
OEM tyre size 235/50R18 101V XL
Wheel size 18" Γ— 7J or 7.5J
Tyre pressure 2.5 bar / 36 psi (front and rear)
Bolt pattern 5Γ—114.3
Kerb weight 1,680 kg (Standard Range) / 1,750 kg (Extended Range)
OEM tyre brand Continental EcoContact 6 Q

Note for early Atto 3 owners: If your car came with Atlas Batman tyres, you are not alone in wanting to upgrade. These were the original OEM fitment before BYD switched to Continental globally. Most owners report improved grip, lower noise, and better wet weather confidence after switching to a known brand.

Pro Tip:Β The earlier models that came with the 215/55/18 tyres are compatible with the new 235/50/18 sizing. You may upgrade your sizing without worrying.

What BYD Atto 3 Owners Should Know About EV Tyres

If the Atto 3 is your first electric vehicle, here is what changes compared to a petrol car:

  • Faster tyre wear is normal β€” The Atto 3's electric motor delivers instant torque, which may wear tyres 20–30% faster than a similarly sized petrol SUV
  • Weight matters β€” At 1,680–1,750 kg, the Atto 3 is heavier than comparable petrol crossovers, placing more load on each tyre. It is important that the tyres have sufficient load rating (not to worry --most tier 1 brands in the correct sizing will easily surpass the requirements)
  • Rolling resistance affects range β€” Low rolling resistance tyres could improve your driving range by 3–5%. This matters when you are planning around charging stops
  • Noise becomes noticeable β€” Without engine noise, road noise is more prominent. EV-compatible tyres with a EV-focused compound, acoustic foam or noise-reduction technology could make a meaningful difference to cabin comfortΒ
  • Singapore heat compounds wear β€” Road surface temperatures exceeding 60Β°C may accelerate rubber degradation. This is why EV tyre life in Singapore tends to be shorter than global averages

How Long Do BYD Atto 3 Tyres Last in Singapore?

Based on real-world owner data:

Driving Pattern Estimated Tyre Life
Mostly expressway, steady speed 32,000–40,000 km
Mixed city and expressway (typical) 28,000–35,000 km
Heavy city use, frequent braking 22,000–28,000 km

These figures are lower than the 50,000+ km often quoted for petrol SUVs. The Atto 3's combination of EV torque, battery weight, and Singapore's tropical heat may shorten tyre life compared to global averages.Β

Tips to extend tyre life:

  1. Rotate every 10,000 km β€” Helps even out wear between front and rear tyres
  2. Check pressure monthly β€” Maintain 2.5 bar (36 psi). Underinflation is the fastest path to uneven wear
  3. Smooth acceleration β€” The Atto 3's instant torque is responsive, but aggressive launches may shorten tread life
  4. Inspect at every service β€” We recommend replacement by 2 mm tread depth (slightly above LTA's 1.6 mm legal minimum) Your insurance surveyor will check this in the unfortunate event of a rear-end accident!Β

Protip - Upsizing Your WheelsΒ

Upgrading your BYD Atto 3 to look even better than it does now? Great! The BYD Atto 3 can comfortably fit up to a 20" set of wheels and tyres.Β

  • 19" Most Common Sizing 235/45/19 OR 255/40/19Β
  • 20" Most Common Sizing 255/35/20Β

It is always best to get your wheels fitted with a professional wheel shop to get the most ideal fitment for your car. These tyre sizes act as a general guide to the possible sizing, but these need to be fitted in conjunction with the right rim widths and offsets -- especially in the event that the car is lowered.Β

Frequently Asked Questions

What tyre size does the BYD Atto 3 use?

The BYD Atto 3 uses 235/50R18 101V XL tyres across all Singapore variants. You may upgrade your earlier 215/55/18 Atto 3 sizing to 235/50/18. This is the same size for both the Standard Range and Extended Range models. The current OEM tyre is the Continental EcoContact 6 Q.

What tyres did the BYD Atto 3 originally come with?

Early Atto 3 units (2022–early 2023) came with Atlas Batman tyres, an unfamiliar brand to most Singapore drivers. BYD later switched to Continental EcoContact 6 Q as the global OEM fitment. If your Atto 3 still has Atlas Batman tyres, upgrading to a recognised brand could improve grip and wet weather safety.

Do BYD Atto 3 tyres wear out faster than normal car tyres?

Yes, this is common across all EVs. The Atto 3's instant torque and higher kerb weight (1,680–1,750 kg) may accelerate tread wear compared to petrol crossovers. In Singapore's conditions, expect 28,000–35,000 km from a set of tyres with mixed driving, versus 45,000–60,000 km for a comparable petrol SUV. In our experience, hard drivers may feel the tyres slipping even at 20,000km.Β

Can I use any 235/50R18 tyre on the Atto 3?

The size must match (235/50R18), but you should also check for a high load rating. Standard-load tyres may not support the Atto 3's weight safely and could wear faster. EV-specific tyres with low rolling resistance are the best choice for range and tread life.Β

Do I need to go to BYD for tyre replacement?

No. Any qualified tyre workshop can replace BYD Atto 3 tyres. The Atto 3 uses standard lug nuts with a 5Γ—114.3 bolt pattern. At Pitstop Auto Club, we stock 235/50R18 tyres from multiple brands and have the correct equipment to service EV vehicles safely, including using the correct torque specs to secure the lug nuts.Β
